We have had only a few hours in Malaysia and we’ve both really enjoyed it. At first glimpse KL is similar to Bangkok, however it’s much greener, cleaner (by Asian standards) and when wandering through the markets you don’t seem to get hassled to ‘look here, look here’ like you do in Thailand.
After catching the Air Asia Skybus into the city, which is incredibly far away from the airports (it took a little under an hour on incredibly fast freeways) we arrived at KL Sentral, which is like the Roma Street Transit Centre for Kuala Lumpur. Our accommodation was at the Swiss Inn, perfectly located in Chinatown, however this was a bit far to walk from KL Sentral. We managed to track down a cab – for the first time ever in Asia we couldn’t find a taxi.. go figure and finally arrived at the Swiss Inn.
A quick check-in, freshen up and we hit the streets! We wandered around Chinatown for a while, and I managed to find some fake (same same, but different) Thomas Sabo stuff (you would have loved it McGee!) and bought a little necklace and also the most divine silk kimono style wrap. We tried some fantastic pork buns (not steamed like traditional yum cha, but these were baked) and the meat and filling was gorgeous and sweet. After a bit more wandering around we grabbed some dinner – Andrew had the Char Kwai Teow and I had Nasi Goreng which we followed up with banana fritters and icecream (piggys!). By this stage we were both exhausted and got back to the hotel and went straight to bed after catching a glimpse of Malaysian pay-tv knowing we had to be up at 2am local time.

So here we are, It’s the wee hours of Friday morning and we are sitting in a coffee/pastry shop in the terminal LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) in KL waiting for our flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka. We have a lot planned once we meet up with our driver at Colombo and are ready to check out the beautiful isle of Ceylon.
Shopping already? Nice work!! Mmmmm - that food looks good - I'm a bit hungry after my 6:15am boot camp session ;) Looking forward to reading more blog posts :)
